About Us - Oh My Darlin' Flowers and Finds

Hello Darlin’!

First off, thank you from the bottom of my heart for perusing my page and now taking the time to read a little about me.

For as long as I can remember I have loved flowers. My earliest memories are of using the little daisy’s that would grow in the grass to make crowns by tying their stems together. I was also crazy about photographing flowers and continue to learn that craft.

I believe that flowers bring joy no matter the medium; fresh, dried, sculpted, painted, photographed! Even the process of their dying evokes feelings and contains beauty.

I could never have imagined that along with the joy they provided me, how much strength they have as growing and arranging flowers helped me to heal. It’s a form of meditation. Digging in the dirt, the successes and the failures (oh the failures), of starting flowers from seed has been life changing to say the least.

After a number of traumatic surgeries in 2019 and 2020, profound loss of all types during those same years, I found myself on this beautiful island with about an acre of land. I decided to grow some flowers and play in the dirt to distract myself. I rebuilt the dilapidated garden, added some dirt, manure and a fence to keep the deer out and voila I had a garden and that was the easy part - lol!

Little by little, they grew, I learned and I was able to share their beauty with friends, family and even strangers. Spreading that love through flowers helped me feel love in return and to connect with inner strength. Growing, cutting and arranging provided me the healing of health and grief and I expanded.

It was then that I decided to act on that feeling and channel the new found addiction of growing with my experience of creating wedding florals as I have for many family and friends for years, expand my knowledge (which never stops), use my small business experience and create Oh My Darlin’ Flowers and Finds in late 2021.

I am a happy Luna (Grandma) to one little firecracker Lilly-Rae, a Mom to Nicole and Terry-Dayne and a step Mom to Michaela. I am so very blessed with beautiful friends and family. I have been humbled and am grateful for the flower community, new friends, and the customers who continue to support me.

When it comes to my work or a bouquet that might land on your doorstep or kitchen counter, please know that the flowers are grown cared for and designed with sustainability and love every single step of the way. I don’t take their joy, beauty, Mother Nature or your support lightly and I hope that you feel the healing, and love when you look at them from the day you receive them until they end up in the compost!

I first purchased flowers from Sandy’s pretty little kiosk at the side of the road in my town of Sooke. From the view of my car window, everything about it was so charming and perfect that I just had to stop. Her flowers are the same - perfect in every way - and her arranging/presentation is second to none. In getting to know her better, her passion for Flowers is unparallelled and very infectious. I’m thinking of renewing my wedding vows so she can create some bouquets for me… Lol
